mmalc X Machina is written from a lifelong interest in technology and the environment — a thread running from an Energy Coordinator role at a UK Friends of the Earth group in the mid-1990s, through a later research and engineering career, to independent writing today on clean energy, electric vehicles, and the climate transition.

Long-form articles work through the evidence behind contested claims — land use, emissions accounting, grid economics, public health costs — while the "On Closer Inspection" series takes specific viral claims apart line by line, in a more conversational, direct voice.

The approach is facts-first throughout: pieces start from primary sources and published data rather than press releases or talking points, and every causal claim is checked against its underlying mechanism, not just its headline conclusion, before anything goes live.
